Note: This is a profile for Ryan Beckwith, a character from John Allison's webcomic Scary Go Round, for the Sorting Hat RP. Ryan and all images of him are owned by John.

Personality

Ryan is a friendly, laid back guy who loves talking to people and has a very distinct way of speaking. He's pretty receptive to most forms of oddness, as he and his friends back in Tackleford have a few screws loose, and he tends to respect other people's business if they don't want to tell him about it. On the flip side, Ryan is something of a Cloudcuckoolander, and he's prone to some odd comments about whatever is on his mind at the time. Additionally, Ryan is a fairly poor judge of character; it takes someone with a very poor reputation indeed to get him suspicious of them, and even then he doesn't usually know when someone is plotting against him. His grasp of history is woefully poor, as well, as he has trouble telling what actually happened from events of his own device.

All things considered, though, he's good to his friends and is willing to do a lot for the people he trusts. He can also be pretty brave every now and then; he's not much of a fighter, but he has been known to do some pretty extreme things if his friends are in danger. He's pretty goofy and laid back most of the time, but he's a good guy to have at your side in times of trouble.

Ryan Beckwith is a Half-blooded wizard from the small town of Tackleford, England. He grew up with his straight laced sister Riley, who tried to stay out of her brother’s business as much as possible, thinking her brother to be stupid and not worth her time. Ma Beckwith was a patient woman and did her best to raise her two children alone, but she never explained to her children why their father left them, other than that he heeded the call of the vagabond. Ryan was able to get along fairly well with this knowledge, fortunately, and made friends with a local boy genius named Tim Jones one day, and he eventually began to integrate himself into Tim’s group of friends. Ryan was still fatherless, and he was never the brightest boy in Tackleford, but he was able to enjoy life his time spent with Tim and his friends Shelley Winters, Amy Chilton and Fallon Young, each of whom eventually warmed up to his brand of madness and sense of humor. He harbored a crush on Fallon for a few years, but she was always a fairly intimidating girl and he never worked up the courage to ask her out; he would also learn only too late that Shelley was interested in him for a little while, but that he was too dense to make things work.

Ryan would find his first love with a French girl named Natalie Durand who he met while taking a walk one day outside of the suburbs of Tackleford. She hadn’t lived in Tackleford long and did not have much experience speaking with Englishmen, but they eventually became friends and more as Ryan began spending more and more time with the friendly French girl and her pet, a bat named Friend Bat who took to Ryan almost immediately. The free-spirited Natalie was receptive to some of Ryan’s peculiarities and strange style of humor, while Ryan found Natalie easy to talk to and felt more confident being around her. Sadly, their love was not to last, as Natalie died in an accidental fire one day and Ryan was the one who found her body. This put Ryan into a deep depression which only deepened when Friend Bat, who Natalie had let him hold onto, passed away days later. Even odder still, Ryan had started to find that odd things had begun to happen around him; dishes would break when he was angry, his bedsheets would fold by themselves, and he was starting to grow a beard way before any boy his age should. Even buying a Comrade Bat to keep himself happy and entertained, he was still confused by these changes.

It was then that his father, the king of the tramps, returned to the Beckwith family to tell Ryan the truth of his heritage. Ryan, the old man told him, was a wizard descended from the Beckwith line of sorcerous vagrants. He offered to teach his son how to control his magic and groom him to take on the old title, but Ryan refused his old man’s offer, largely out of bitterness towards his father never being there for him. He was a bit more open to magical instruction when he received a letter to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, however, which he proceeded to show his parents. Pa Beckwith gave him one last offer to learn the old ways with him, which Ryan refused again, and this was the end for the two of them; Ryan was publically disowned by his father, who huffed from the house in a rage, never to be seen again.

Ryan, not daunted by this, said his goodbyes to Ma Beckwith, Riley and his friends before taking the Hogwarts Express to his destiny and living the dream with his pet, a cat he christened Friend Nat. This has meant separating from his Muggle friends, as only his family members know where he truly is; Shelley, Amy, Fallon and Tim think that he has been exiled to Wales, and he hates not being able to confide in them. Still, Ryan has remained largely carefree through his many years of instruction, and sends letters home to his family often. Additionally, Ryan has taken to his studies with variable success - he does poorly in History of Magic, takes fairly well to Potions and Defense Against the Dark Arts and gets good grades in Care For Magical Creatures, partially because of his interest in animals. He still doesn't know what he wants to do with his life, and is content passing a good time at Hogwarts for now, but he's learning every day and is always looking for some ways to fit into magical society without being saddled with his Pa's legacy.
